My excellent work experienceDenise Webber • 13th August
Sinead Howard from Parkside Creative Trust spent a few days with us here in the office and wrote the following blog about her experience.
It was really fun doing my work experience at WordsandPictures, so much so, I didn’t want to leave! Everyone is incredibly welcoming and the work the do here is really cool. I’ve learnt so much in such a short space of time that I’m ready to join the working world already. On my first day, Denise Webber, Client Manager, gave me a short tour around the building, then we attended a meeting where I was introduced to all the staff who are genuinely lovely and great fun to be around.
Surprisingly, the meeting was in no way boring and only lasted for about 10 minutes. I was then introduced to everyone personally and learnt more about each of their job roles, which are interesting and diverse.
For my work experience, I created a 4 page magazine about a subject of my choice, I chose Whitby. I got to keep the finished printed product for my portfolio. At first, I just planned it out but then I had to get started on writing the articles, which was a challenge in itself, who knew writing was so hard?
When I’d finally finished the articles, Damon Bowles, the company’s Head of Editorial, checked through my articles and gave me helpful tips on how to make my writing more effective and to the point. He taught me loads that I will be able to take back with me to school and on to any other jobs I will have in the future. Writing done, it was time to actually design the magazine.
With the help of Jen Richards, Head of Design, it eventually came together and all the hard work definitely paid off, although, I’m not sure I would have managed without Liz Spooner, Marketing, and her amazing hot chocolates!
I had a great few days at WordsandPictures and am very grateful for the experience.
